 | | | | | | -Online Skill Games Forum and Online Skill Gaming Guide-
Skill Games online have had a difficult history. There have been many hacking cases and 'cheat' modes to give some players an advantage over others. We will aim to offer you the best sites and games online to play for real money that are true skill.
It is important to note that almost all governments strictly regulate cash prizes awarded for competing in games of chance (i.e. gambling) but have no such restrictions for games of skill. You may think that video games such as first person shooters (FPS) are purely based on skill, but random elements can affect the outcome (eg. one player could start at a less advantageous position or have less good weapons close by). In any case, FPS and similar games are never going to be big in the Skill Games market simply because of the possibility of programming bots to play optimally (no hacking even needed).
To be certain that a game can be classed as a skill game (and therefore legal almost everywhere) it is safer to make it pure skill with no luck at all involved. It can be hard to ensure no element of chance is involved in the outcome of a game, although just because an element of the game is random doesn't mean there is an element of chance in the outcome. One method is to duplicate the same randomness to all the players in a round so each player is effectively playing the same game. This way, a simultaneously played single player game can be a skill game as long as the game unfolds in exactly the same way for each player.
Aside from video games (including sporting simulations such as video pool), popular board and card games are well suited to skill gaming. Backgammon is a popular board game that isn't pure skill but has so much skill involved that it's classed as a skill game in many jurisdictions (not the UK, where the Gambling Commission classes it as gambling). Similarly with the card game, Gin Rummy. Unfortunately, bots can also be used by players to play but sophisticated gaming software can make it difficult for them.
As always with peer2peer or multiplayer games, players still need to be wary of the possibility of shills (players playing for the site). Any evidence of shills is good evidence of cheating.
About Our NetworkI have been keeping up with the online gaming industry ever since I started playing online casinos in 1999. I set up FairCasinos.com in 2003 primarily for information purposes (there weren't any ads at all in the forum and the homepage was similar to what it is now). We have now branched out with these other related sites. You can count on us telling the truth about gaming sites and we 'blacklist' many gaming sites that other portals do not (such as the Party Gaming and 888 sites). I have been very disappointed about other so called 'watchdog' sites that tend to side with the gaming company in disputes.
We now have many features, including blogs and social networking and a single forum registration will work for every site in the network. We have only just launched the others in the network, which include: FairCasinos.com (main site), Fairskillgames.com, Fairskillgames.com, FairLottos.com, FairPokers.com and FairSkillGames.com. I've been using the editorial 'we' here as this has always been me on my own. This is why the sites have been set up to allow a lot of content to be added by the forum members (including updating historical information and databases) if they have the knowledge, since 90% of my playing experience and knowledge is with online casinos with the rest mainly being sportsbooks and poker and a tiny amount of skillgame and lotto. There is a lot of useful information that other players or people in the industry have that I may not know of and many people have more information on the other types of online gaming other than the ones I'm experienced in. There is also a limited amount I can work on at one time and recently I've only been concentrating on the technical aspects of the site.
Please note that the Online Gaming Guides linked to on the left are some of the best in terms of providing information but the online gaming sites they recommend are not always good ones. We only recommend reliable ones with no unresolved issues on this site and any from external links are not endorsed.
Now being discussed in the Forum...The Forum is in the process of being reorganised at the moment but below are a few recent message headings: We have given away nearly US$8000 in Prize Draw cash to our Forum members.
